Recycled Water
As the Cucamonga Valley continues to grow, so does the demand for water. Making recycled water available for landscape and industrial purposes allows the Cucamonga Valley Water District (CVWD) to conserve the drinking water supply for other needs. Using recycled water and conserving (potable) drinking water also helps CVWD diversify our water supply so we are not reliant on only one source of water.
Integrating Recycled Water
Integrating recycled water into the overall water supply helps to limit water shortages in the future. Construction of a recycled water distribution system has allowed the district to receive recycled water via the Inland Empire Utilities Agency’s Regional Recycled Water System for distribution to local parks, greenbelts, and commercial centers.
Purposes of Recycled Water
CVWD continues to develop its use of recycled water for irrigation purposes. Throughout the service area, recycled water is used at parks, street medians, parkways, school athletic fields, and landscaping at business and industrial complexes. The District currently has 135 recycled water customers online and recycled water accounts for 3% of CVWD's overall water supply.
Uses for Recycled Water
CVWD and IEUA set precautionary standards and requirements to ensure the safety of workers and the public. The recycled water system is color-coded purple to ensure recycled water appurtenances are distinguishable from potable appurtenances.
Recycled water is not used for drinking. It has several other valuable uses, including:

- Fire Suppression
- Industrial Processes
- Dust Control on Construction Sites
- Wetlands Restoration
- Toilet Flushing
- Groundwater Recharge
- Recreational Water Bodies
Effective 7/1/2021, the temporary construction meter rate for Recycled Water is $1.88 per hundred cubic feet (748 gallons) and will increase to $1.94 per hundred cubic feet effective 7/1/2022.
Effective 7/2/2021, the Recycled Water Rate for domestic/landscape use is $1.88 per hundred cubic feet and will increase to $1.94 on 7/1/2022.
