Innovative Project featured on L.A. Lifestyle Show
Rancho Cucamonga, CA (January 22, 2010)- On Friday, January 8, Con Chile Y Limon, a Los Angeles Lifestyle Show, was onsite at the Frontier Project in Rancho Cucamonga, to capture all of the innovative design and environmentally-friendly elements of the building. Con Chile y Limon highlights unique locations throughout Southern California. The episode featuring the Frontier Project aired on Wednesday, January 13, at 2:30 p.m. on Channel 22, KWHY.
Hector Gaxiola, of the Frontier Project’s architecture team, HMC Architects, was onsite to speak with Con Chile y Limon about the features of the building and the unique programming offered at the Frontier Project for the community.
“The Frontier Project is unique in that it has something for everyone,” commented Gaxiola, inside the Frontier Project. “For example, the kitchen features bamboo cupboards and floors, and the countertops are made using recycled glass. The building uses low-VOC paints and finishes, helping to maintain indoor air quality.”
Con Chile y Limon highlighted unique aspects of the Frontier Project, including the passive cooling system that uses a cool tower and two solar chimneys; the 200 panel photovoltaic solar array; and the decomposed granite and pervious paving used on the walking paths. One of the most unique aspects of the Frontier Project is the use of Insulated Concrete Forms (ICF’s) for all exterior walls. ICF’s provide added insulation for the building, while helping to reduce landfill waste. The Frontier Project is the largest commercial application of ICF’s in the United States.
The Frontier Project opened to the public in November 2009, and is offering a variety of workshops, classes, and educational programming. The first workshop will be held on February 13, and will feature Green Financing and Eco-Brokers. The Frontier Project is open to the public Monday- Friday, 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. For more information or to schedule a tour, visit www.frontierproject.org or call (909)944-6025.
