The Frontier Project Foundation will construct a 14,000-square-foot demonstration building that will show how sustainable design is economical, efficient, and inviting. Located in Rancho Cucamonga, California, it will display and utilize sustainable innovations for Southern California living and working environments. The Frontier Project’s goal is to educate resident consumers, commercial builders, and sustainable advocates regarding the latest methods and technologies in water, energy, and site conservation.
Is it possible to change behavior toward resource management? We believe it is. Twenty years ago, recycling as an everyday practice was just a thought. Today we have recycling bins at home and at work, and recycling has become a way of life. We believe the Frontier Project can help make a behavioral change in all areas of resource management.
Is it possible to change perceptions about sustainable building design? We believe it is. The Frontier Project Foundation has assumed the task of providing a resource in the Inland Empire to showcase sustainable building design for Southern California living and working environments. Increasing awareness to commercial and residential builders and consumers is the first step in changing perception about current building practices.
Can a demonstration building authenticate sustainable living and working environments as inviting, unique, and economically feasible? We believe it can. The Frontier Project will have a demonstration space to display other technologies that are not part of the building’s components. It will include a sustainable kitchen, living room, photovoltaic system, and many more indoor and outdoor systems. Homeowners, builders, and business owners are welcome to view these systems to learn how to incorporate them into their homes or facilities. All displays will be “hands on.” Information will be available on each building component, including how they work and their environmental impact. The building will also include staff space for up to 15 individuals in an alternative office setting, and include a public meeting space for up to 80 people.
The Frontier Project will be a LEED Platinum Certified building. LEED is the measuring criteria used to quantify how environmentally responsible a building is. The Frontier Project is aiming for the highest level of LEED certification.
